I think he meant that!

Here is a video of my dearly beloved husband reciting the Soldier’s Creed at graduation today. I can tell he meant what he said. Besides my husband would not state a creed he did not wholeheartedly agree with.

Bryan walked away from his time at BCT with four awards for his leadership skills and his accomplishments. He was named and/or awarded (I like to say “earned!”) the following:

Soldier of the Cycle
Army Medal of Achievement
Prise Award for Leadership, and a
Certificate of Acheievement

I think he did alright!

It was amazing to hear his voice with a command I have never heard before — however the teenage boys said they have heard it in the past! I will post the words to the Creed below so you can follow. There is a little bit of an echo (that was not present during the recitation– it was very clear).

I am an American Soldier.
I am a Warrior and a member of a team.
I serve the people of the
United States and live the Army Values.
I will always place the mission first.
I will never accept defeat.
I will never quit.
I will never leave a fallen comrade.
I am disciplined, physically and mentally tough, trained and proficient in my warrior tasks and drills.
I always maintain my arms, my equipment and myself.
I am an expert and I am a professional.
I stand ready to deploy, engage, and destroy the enemies of the United States of America in close combat.
I am a guardian of freedom and the American way of life.
I am an American Soldier.

NGW, I loved the part where he said “DESTROY!” too. I know my husband and I know he meant that part! I jokingly turned to my 19 year old (Noah) after Bryan lead the Creed and said “There’s MY man!” He rolled his eyes. haha!

Stacy, I am very proud of him and I know it has been tough for him being away from him family. That is the part that always hurts the most for all of us. I know you have been through deployment so you know as well as anyone how hard it is. Bryan and I know that it is nothing more than God’s grace and mercy that he has been able to give as much as he can. I can see my husband already transforming into an Officer!

You better tell that ButterBar to Be that he needs to work on deepness and infliction when he says that creed! :-P Ha ha, he sounded good and I’m glad he passed his OCS APFT; now when I come back from Iraq with more TIS (Time In Service..ha ha another acronym for you) than him and combat experience I’ll have to give him a hard time.

    Love you.

Claire, I am proud of Bryan, Mike and all the men and women in uniform. We pray for them every day. I am the wife of an Army Major (retired). Good luck and God bless our Troops.

A little humorous to see that my first impression and smile at Damon’s recitation was his emphasis on DESTROY and that it was noted. I’m glad you bring these blasts from the past back from time to time – a statement in and of itself regarding the relevancy and permanence of what you write, how great to reflect and share this legacy for years to come. This weekend during our 4th of July celebrations in addition to firing off fireworks we had a weapons class for the family and shot my Beretta and a friend’s AK-47. Many of our civilian friends had never handled a weapon much less an AK-47. I enjoyed that my sons took particular pride in their father’s ability to instruct, handle, and fire with a degree of proficiency and I appreciate the fact that you know what I mean.

With Utmost Respect ~ Semper Fi, Hank

And Damon, you’re the man! The more I know the more I respect.

Hank I always liked that part too. Even the other officers around that day made comment that they liked the backbone he showed in his leading.

Ah, the joys of weapons. My dad has an AR15 that he purchased the day before they became illegal to sell. I have handled it — I have never shot it though. lol
