C’mon! You can do it! That’s right. Ok.

Emma was not feeling 100% this morning, so I skipped the gym. I never take her into public when there is even the remotest possibility that she is sick. I am pretty diligent about not sharing the wealth when it comes to sick kiddos, and especially when they are complaining of a tummy ache. We had a quiet morning just lying on the couch together and watching Clifford.

I think that she is just fine though. As the day progressed she perked right up and tummy ache went away eventually. To make up for my lost gym time I put in a Firm workout.

I really like these workouts because they combine the use of weights with an aerobic workout. It’s not heavy aerobic if you are used to a rigorous cardiovascular workout, but it is a hard workout muscle wise. Whoa! I was only using medium weights, and it about killed me today. Lots of lunges, lots of squats, and lots of grunting, sweating and writhing around on the floor in agony. It was a good workout.

What I have always liked about the Firm, is the fact that they never, ever, make a promise that you will get thin or sculpted without having to work really hard. The program just helps you do it more efficiently, and they offer a lot of variety in the various workouts. I highly recommend it. I really need to do these videos 5 days a week. I mainly use it as a backup for when I can’t get to the gym, but I realized today that I am cheating myself by not taking full advantage of the sculpting exercises.

All in all it is really great. I just hate that it has the smiling women in it. You know the ones I am talking about. Their makeup is perfect, cute exercise outfits and super perky personalities. The Firm is less perky than the usual suspects, and I appreciate that. I hate it when you are deep in a squat — holding it, and lifting your dumbbells over your head and you look up and there is this perky blonde saying “C’mon! You can do it! That’s right! Are you doing it? I knew you could!”

No, you didn’t know I could do it. If you knew what I was doing when you were praising me, you would have realized that when you started to say that stuff I was doing my deep and torturous squat. Good, right? Well, I spotted a cookie the baby dropped earlier, so I put the weights down sat in the floor and ate it and then polished off her apple juice. I guess you should try and know exactly what behavior it is that you are encouraging! You may be exhorting something you never intended!

  1. OMG you are cracking me up, I would have done the same thing. I have done the very same thing.

  2. True confessions! ha ha! You know when you are a mom of little ones you do a lot of things that you never thought of doing before. Did you know that Dutch Apple Dessert baby food is great spread over toast?

Well today I didn’t actually get a cookie since Emma doesn’t ever drop anything like that (now carrots I could have probably found had I looked hard enough!), but when I was exercising that scenario came to my mind. I guess her automatic approval of my form was getting on my nerves. I would rather hear nothing than hear empty encouragement.

BTWL how’s that little Ela doing? :)

  3. Yeah when those chicks count one, two, three….kick two, three and isn’t this great I wanna scream LOL.
