The deployment gods must be crazy!

Remember a few days ago when I swore my day was the result of a global conspiracy? Uh-huh, yes, it is true. I have new evidence!

This morning I woke up a little late. It took me twice as long to get out the door, and when I was getting into the car I went to reach for my directions and my reservation confirmations — guess what? They were still inside the computer. Oh great! So, I had to open up my laptop, run back upstairs and print off my information. Fine. Ok, let’s get this show on the road!

We are about 10 miles into the trip and the Pirate pukes. Poor baby struggles with motion sickness. I finally talked her into chewing on a children’s Dramamine. Fine and good. Let’s get this show on the road!

25 miles later she pukes again. and again. and again. Well, you get the picture. I had to stop a half a dozen times or more to clean her up, change her clothes, clean anything around her, etc. Since she had been vomiting her tummy was pretty empty so fortunately it was not a huge mess each time - and after the first time I put a huge bib on her. Poor baby. We were driving down the road and the only thing I could do was play some music for her and talk to her.

Finally after all of that we stopped at a Kroger’s for lunch. We had crackers and Gatorade. Nate and I just ate what Emma did… it felt cruel to eat anything that she couldn’t have. She also scored a Mr. Potato Head. I was so impressed that they even carried anything like that! We were going for a new box of crayons, but man she earned a Mr. Potato Head with all she went through today!

So, here we are at the hotel. Checked in (very nice place too!) and starving, but too tired to go anywhere. Gee.

Of course now that we are out of the car she is wired for sound. She is running around here like a squirrel on chocolate covered espresso beans — of course I am wore out!

I am waiting for my soldier to call. The second we get word we are going to go to Ft. Benning and we are going to get him. I can’t wait. As exhausting as the trip was today it was totally worth it. I would do anything for the Pirate to not have to go through all of that. She is such a trooper, but it is just heartbreaking. I am going to call her pediatrician in a minute. I just want to find out if there is something better than the Dramamine. Maybe he will call something in for us here.

In the meantime, you all have a wonderful weekend! We are going to do our best. I hope to figure out how to get home without all of the puke. I swear the Deployment gods must be crazy!

  1. AWTM had the same problem with her two. I forget what she used, but it did the trick.

Hope you all have a much better weekend.

  2. Have fun with your soldier!

  3. Thanks for the tip Stacy! I will have to go over and search her blog for puke remedies! :)

Thanks Green! I am looking forward to seeing him. We were hoping that maybe we could talk tonight, but so far nothing. So, I will be picking him up in the morning. That’s OK! I can wait another 12 hours! :)

  4. Have a wonderful time with your hubby. The Baby does alot of puking on our road trips. I never know when he will do it. Sometimes it is every five miles sometimes it is never. I must get Draimine for our next trip.

  5. I was going to tell you the same thing as Stacy. I hope the Pirate feels better and you don’t have the same problem on the way back. Enjoy your time with your hubby. Get in lots of “snuggling.” :D

  6. NGW: The Dramamine does work pretty well, but the trick to it is to give it about 30 minutes or so before the trip starts, and then give doses regularly (as recommended on the box). She finally stopped, but it took a while for it to work. There is a pharmacy here that makes a gel form of phenergan. It works really well too, and with the gel you simply rub it on their wrists! Much easier, but make sure you wear gloves, or you both will be taking a nap! :p

Thanks BFW! Snuggle time rocks! ;)

  7. Never hard of the gel but wow I bet that is helpful and probably works faster too….hmmmm gonna have to look for that I get car sick sometimes on long trips. Hope your weekend is AWESOME!!!!
