She’s a maniac!
She approached me and said “You work out like a maniac!” At first I was a little mortified because I thought that perhaps I looked insane on the machine I rightfully call “the Beast!” When I looked puzzled she said “The way you work out on that cross trainer every day!” Then I was able to tell her that “the Beast” is my friend these days. It’s a love hate thing. My heart loves it, my thighs hate it. Anyway, I know that I have had people come by and look at my workout summary before. I guess I didn’t realize that doing a full hour at a 10-minute mile pace was unusual. I have even had a few people ask me how I do it. Well, I just worked up to it. Now I have to turn my resistance up and do harder courses. It knocks my mileage down from 5.5-6.0 a day to about 5.0 until it gets easier again.
The best part of all of this is… my running is getting better! Believe it or not the one thing that has helped me the most at getting through those “side stitches” has been the kick boxing! The past two classes I have run on the treadmill afterward and was able to go farther than on any other day. My guess is the kicking, punching and stretching helps the muscles in my side to stretch nice and deep. I think I am breathing better to.
I haven’t figured out yet if I am running from something or toward something. Maybe if I can figure that out it will increase my speed! Think big hairy spiders, Claire. You are running from big hairy spiders. I may just win a half-marathon with that kind of thinking! :)

Just…. wow.
Green, if anyone had told me in April of this year that I would be able to do that I would have laughed really hard, and then I would have had a piece of cheesecake just to be contrary. I swear the exercise has helped me cope so much… there really are days when I climb on that cross trainer and I am literally “gone” for an hour. I am working out problems and getting out frustration all at the same time. I am quite happy with the results though. If I had not exercised I am sure I would not be a very healthy person right now.
