The first snow

We had our first Tennessee snowfall last night. Imagine the delight and ecstatic energy in this household when the 16-year old was told that he had no school today, and the 3 year old woke up to a wonderland. Emma and Bryan have already been out in the snow once, and they came in long enough to thaw. They have fast and furious plans to go back out as soon as they are all warm and ready. The picture to the left was taken from my front window.

I think the day will be spent in the going outside, freezing, coming inside, and thawing cycle. That’s OK by me. I would have loved snow as a kid. I dreamed about what it would be like, but being raised in Southern Arizona never afforded me the chance to experience it. So, I will stay inside today, warm, dry and blogging, while Bryan and Emma make the most out of the cold!

Here are a couple of snap shots of the fun:

Now it’s time to warm up the Ovaltine and feed the troops some soup. Until I blog again I will be here, knee deep in the snow!

  1. Looks like fun! Have a great day!

  2. So that’s where the snow went that was supposed to hit us!!
Ahhh, I remember those snow days when my kids were home. Sooo much fun, freezing their hineys off, then coming in to hot chocolate to unthaw for awhile…repeating the cycle till way after dark.

    Enjoy the snow!

  3. Thanks Calista! So far we are having a very nice time with the cold and the day together.

KYWoman — Sorry we stole your snow… or you may be very happy about that! lol It’s not too much really, but enough to have some fun in. We are all thawed out for the moment, but I have decided tonight is a good night for quiche and soup! :)

  4. So glad it is you and not me. Now grant it if I were a little girl like Emma, I would be all excited too. Hope she does not get too cold. We used to make snow ice cream as a child. I can only remember it snowing maybe 4-5 times in my younger years here in Mississippi.

  5. I loved seeing the snow down here in the Georgia mountains! How much did you get there?

  6. Hi Green! We probably got just a couple of inches. It was pretty to see, but it’s already nearly gone. It got up to 40 degrees today. For tomorrow through Sunday it’s not supposed to get barely above freezing though.

How much did you all get in the Ga. mountains?

  7. Welcome to my world!! The snow covered trees in the yard are lovely and Emma looks delighted! Kids and snow are pure joy, it’s such a miracle to them. Thanks for posting the photos!

  8. Stacy — we have never made the snow cream before, but I have heard about it. I am sure when you are little it tastes better than ice cream ever could!

Cathy — I am almost embarrassed to call that “snow” in front of you! I am sure you could tell me a thing or two about snow! :)

  9. Uh…trust me. You don’t want to make snow cream in this area no matter how deep it gets:-)

  10. Oh Claire
I LOVE your new website home—very, very nice!
Thank you so much for the snow photos of TN and your family—I have to confess snow is one of my main addictions in life–the others being my kids, mountains and family history.
Your Emma is beautiful–I hope she and her dad had lots of fun in the beautiful snow:)
My grandpa grew up in TN—so I really, really love seeing ANY photos of it!
Well congrats on your new cyber home–! aimee
