And we are saving what, again?

backward_clock.gifSo, we are now officially into our third day of daylight savings time — or we are coming off of DST or something like that, I think. I can only semi-think right now because the stupid time change has left me discombobulated once again. So, what is it we are saving exactly? Daylight? I don’t feel like I have added a single second onto my day since I have had to spend the majority of the day trying to remind myself to keep my eyes open. Ugh.

I was raised in Arizona where the time never changes and Coyotes never sleep. I have lived in the South for over 20 years now and you would think that my body would be adjusted to the time change dealio. Nope. My body and brain reject it on every level. It’s always the Spring forward thing too — I can handle the whole “Fall back” time, but this losing an hour in the morning time just kills me. It’s just an hour, so I can’t figure out why it leaves me so cloudy headed for about a month.

Here’s a new platform for a Presidential Candidate who wants to stand apart from the others — promise that you will pass legislation that will leave our time alone and lower our taxes. Heck, with those two promises alone you could win the seat!

I hope to come out of my cloud soon. I am totally exhausted, but making it. I even made my first Indian dish right here at home. The only real Indian cuisine restaurant in our area shut down, and we have been “needing” some Tandoori Chicken and Naan. Well, I gave it a shot and it was good… not as good as we have had, but I know a few things I need to do next time. Oh, and I only set the fire alarm off one time while using the cast iron skillet to simulate a Tandoor oven. :) Hey, being a homemaker is not just a job… it’s an adventure.

So, chime in and tell me how you are doing with this time change — actually you can chat about anything you want to. What’s on your mind the most these days?

  1. It was delightful to have more daylight after 5 p.m., however when 9 o’clock rolled around, it had the ‘feeling’ of being 7 o’clock, which resulted in my feeling very wide awake at 11 o’clock, which is not a good thing when one must get up at 5 a.m., Think I finally fell asleep around midnight. Very surprised I can type at all this morning. So far, I’d like to ‘clock’ someone for screwing up my internal clock. And how was your night?????

  2. Our night was long and tiring. Not much sleep here either, and remember when you get up at 5am it’s really 4am according to your inner-clock. This is why you want to clock someone! :) Drink a nice hot cup of coffee. I hope your day goes well and you sleep well tonight. I plan on taking a Tylenol PM tonight at 7pm!

  3. I too am having a hard time adjusting Claire. I have been waking up anywhere from 0300-0430 every morning since the time change. Very unusual for me, and I can’t go back to sleep. Go figure. If the time had not have changed, it would be an hour earlier. I won’t make it very long on this schedule either.

I usually don’t mind the time change, but right now I have way too much on my plate I guess.

    Take care Claire.

  4. Right Claire! Even the simplest things. Yesterday I went to Sam’s, at the door, I whip out my military id to show the lady. She was very kind, busted out laughing and said the time change was to blame.

Yesterday seemed to be the day of back peddle all day and accomplish nothing, not to mention being in an extremely foul mood. Try as I might I could not get my head in a good place. I finally just gave up and accepted that it wasn’t going to go away.

May today be much much better. I’m a normally organized person, I am not very well organized right now…I blame the time change!

  5. I’m so thrilled to see extra daylight - feels like summer is almost here. It’s been such a brutal winter that I don’t mind losing the sleep. What gets tossed around are appointments with people overseas….was the difference 5 or 6 hours again?

The only thing that gets to me: seeing Peeps by the bagful at the grocery store this time of year. I am not ready to eat them…

Tandoori chicken??? Wow. It can get addictive…I know. I have friends that beg me to head on over to the local Indian restaurant - just for the chicken. The Naan? I am such a happy shortcutter - I buy mine from the store! :-)

  6. Daylight Savings Time is kicking my behind if you want to know the truth of it. I, too would support a candidate who would bring an end to it. I don’t know why just moving the clock ahead one hour means that I suddenly can’t fall asleep until midnight. And why does it feel like it’s 10 when it’s noon? Isn’t that two hours? And why do I want to eat dinner when I should be going to bed? I’m surviving on chocolate and sweet tea.

  7. I am all out of wack too. They say it takes a day for every hour of jet lag, so why is it taking so long to get out out of the funk from the time change…..I am all out of it because it is only 7 hours between my husband and it is hard enough to change my own clocks, but to change them on my blog, sheesh, why bother he should be home before it matters :D

Oh and love the new site!

  8. I am swimming in the brain fog! I am in a DST funk! I seriously feel like I have been hit by a Mac Truck — going to body sculpting today did not help either. It just drained me of the little bit of reserve energy that I had.

The time warp that it causes is beyond belief! I say we start a small revolt! ;)

Piper — My Tandoori chicken turned out pretty good, but it was lacking a couple of the awesome Indian spices (I had to substitute Paprika for the kashmiri red chile powder). I definitely tasted the garlic and the ginger, so I know I was doing something right! Yum! The Naan was fairly easy, but buying it would be nice! We do have one Indian store in town, and I plan on going there again soon to stock up on the spices I need for the next Tandoori adventure — that and maybe I can find some pre-made Naan! :)

  9. While you were all dealing with a one hour time change, I was overseas and am now dealing with a 13 hour time change! Remind me not to complain about the one hour one ever again. With a son in Arizona, I also have to remember that he is 2 hours earlier than me, not one. I sure hope the one day for one hour is true or I am going to be a mess for a long time. I had a great time, but would rather be dealing with the one hour, even though I always complain about that.

  10. Jane, 13 hours makes the 1 hour pale in comparison! I am sure it was great to travel a little, but yes, the time warp you go through does take its toll on you!
