Army Stands Down - Again

I just love these provocative titles. Don’t you?

Apparently there are a lot of pro-censorship guys like Phil Carter, still at work for the Army. In this latest case a certain Lt. G was ORDERED NOT TO BLOG. The story is here, here, and the original is here. Oh, and The Thunder Run also has it. (wave to DavidM.)

BUT, not only was he ordered not to blog … he was then ordered to REMOVE AND DELETE HIS BLOG. We’re lucky that one of his friends archived the entries in question so that you can go read ‘em for yourself. I was a regular reader of Lt. G’s blog, KABOOM. I read the post that got him into hot water. At the time of my initial reading I thought to myself, “The more things change the more they stay the same in the Army.” But it never occurred to me that anyone would take Lt. G’s post as anything but a very, very, glossed over account of a not so atypical day in the life of a rising Officer.

The order to stop blogging for a while? Lame. But no big deal. The order to delete? That’s an abuse of power. And here’s my opinion as a civilian who has been in the Army: The man in Lt. G’s chain of command who ordered this is a POS Pogue who wouldn’t know the pointy end of the spear from his pointy head and should have his leadership “looked into” by JAG.

There. That ought to get me linked to the WaPo Intel Dumpster and Stand-downTo! for sure.

And if that doesn’t then this might - Redleg six, dumping kilobytes and preparing to surrender. Out.

I guess we don’t need political leaders to cause the Army to fail. We’ve still got lots of people like Phil Carter and Wesley Clark to take care of that for us. We’re winning in spite of these people. It amazes me just how good the Army is that it can survive these people.

I love the Army. I really do. I’m trying very hard to get back in. BUT this sort of crap we do not need. It’s weak. It does not support the mission. It supports one individuals ego.

The greatest Army ever to march on the face of the earth doesn’t need this kind of short sighted leadership.

Mr.Hooah!, out.

Closing, Closing…

… and hopefully today, if all goes as planned, we will officially say “Closed!” We are headed out in a few to close on our house. We are very excited and it is nice to settle into a realization that we will not be traipsing off all over the Country. I was geared up for that, but I am fine staying put and continuing on with life here in TN. Mr. H! has not given up on the Reserves. We simply need to get him APFT ready. Looks like I need to get my Drill Instructor hat on and kick some booty!

Mike is on his way home this week, and we will all be together on the 4th of July for a family picnic and a time for me to soak in the realization that my whole family is in the exact same spot at the exact same time. Now there’s a blessing beyond blessings! [Read more →]

Good morning, and a good news morning it is! Once again, the finding was good and dgging was not too deep. The good news is there and ready to be reported. It’s a sad commentary that these stories are not being told in the MSM. Take a peek a few stories down… Violence in Iraq is down 80% since last year! 80%!! Have a blessed weekend! [Read more →]

Veteran hopes account of war, PTSD struggle helps other troops

(excerpt)

After surviving one of the most vicious firefights in the war in Afghanistan, Capt. Nate Self knew he had to write about it.

Self led a Ranger platoon in a daylong battle on Takur Ghar mountain that claimed the lives of seven U.S. servicemen on March 4, 2002. [Read more →]

Talkin’ ’bout my generation

I am having a mid-life revelation. I am slowly seeing what my future holds. I am not a fortune teller so I am not claiming to see details of events to come, but rather I see a general trend that seems unstoppable.

I am slowly turning into one of “those” people who shakes her head at current trends and says under her breath “today’s kids, gees!” I am fighting the bitterness, but it’s a losing battle. There is a new dawn of awareness for me as to the origins of why a lot of elderly folks grow that layer of crust on the personality with time. They aren’t mean. They aren’t just grouchy, but they are irritated and it’s not hard to see why.

When you reach a certain age (I think it happens for most of us in our 40s) you begin to realize that the things you recognize as cultural familiarities are no longer part of the culture around you. Sure, when you go to the reunion or hang out with others your age it is less apparent, but when removed from that context, you suddenly realize that the world is upside down.

In your day certain things were not permissible, but today they are magically sanctioned and culturally promoted. One day things look one way, and the next day they look differently. One day certain trends are cool and the next day they are not. Our culture is always changing, so I am not talking about the small changes. I also am not of the mindset that all change is progress. Anyone who would assume that change is good just because it’s, well, different, is likely to use the argument that the sun is hot because it’s on fire. Mm-k. [Read more →]

Another non-bragging post by an indifferent mother

I thought I would post another entry in my humble and very disinterested tone to tell you all that a “certain Specialist” is now a “certain Promotable Specialist” and should be a “certain Sergeant” starting in August once all of this points are tallied and everything is official. Also, said ‘certain Promotable Specialist” did so well in his board interview that his superiors noted to him that his long term goal of earning the opportunity to go before a Sergeant Audie Murphy board is within his grasp if he continues doing as well as he has been doing.

Ok, my moment of non-bragging is over.

Obama/McCain agree - strategic withdrawl from East St.Louis a must, Iraq not-so-much

Catchy headline, no?
This story ran a couple days ago in the Army Homepage:

Violence in Iraq Drops to Four-Year Low
Jun 24, 2008
BY Fred W. Baker III
WASHINGTON (AFPS, June 23, 2008) - Violence in Iraq dropped in May to its lowest level in four years, according to a Defense Department report released to Congress Monday.

The quarterly report, feared required by Congress, measured progress in the country in March through May of this year. The report highlighted that all major violent indicators dropped during the reporting period by as much as 80 percent.

My own home town news station ran this under their “Eye on Iraq” segment:

American deaths in Iraq at a high for the week!”  OMG!!! Pull Out NOW!!

Ok, I added that last part.

But I didn’t make up the weekly high part. I don’t have to. Truth is stranger than fiction. Look up the crime stats on East St.Louis and you’ll be shocked, shocked I tell you. We should immediately withdraw our brave firemen, policemen, and health care types … its just too dangerous.

OLD DRUM:OLD BEAT

Mr.Hooah!, out.

Sockin’ it to the military moms!

Brat posted an ad put out by the same liberal, divisive, group that accused our good General of being a betrayer. The ad shows a woman holding her baby, and she tells Senator McCain that when he says ‘we will stay in Iraq for 100 years if that is what it takes to win’, then he can’t count on her baby.

The ad is pure tripe. If you don’t get caught up in the “warm fuzzies” the ad is constructed to give (actually I figured out later it was a bowl of chili that caused mine…) you will feel insulted that these people think you are stupid enough to be scared that anyone is asking you to hand over your baby. I have said it before, and I will say it again… a wild dingo is a greater risk to your babies than the US Military. They don’t want your little ones. Calm down! [Read more →]
