We’ve been found out…
We were linked to today by Comedy Central’s Indecision 2008, and they blew the lid off the cover with the following statement in their article titled: The Army Kinda Sorta Maybe Tangentially Quietly Accidentally Anti-Endorses Obama By Association
“This would all be a non-story, of course, if Mr.Hooah!, of course, weren’t the well-known Counterstrike handle of Secretary of Defense Robert Gates.
But as it is, I smell conspiracy.”
I am glad this came to light. People are very confused when they come here from the WaPo article and they keep blaming ME for the article. There are TWO bloggers here. Claire (me) and Mr. Hooah! my husband (a.k.a. International Man of Mystery, Bill Gates, Robert Gates, Robert Redford and his alter ego the Anteater) He wrote the article that, although it was dripping with sarcasm and bitterness, was taken as some gospel word from the military. I am glad that Comedy Central gets it.

Kit, you accuse me of speaking for military families on the matter of Obama — when indeed I have not. This blog is PRIVATELY owned and operated. I have never once any where claimed to be a voice for military families. I never once stated that I am an authority to speak for them… I have found that most military wives, mothers, sisters, brothers, fathers, etc. are very bright people and they speak for themselves quite well. You are the one claiming some authority to speak on their behalf - not me.
This is how “I dare” speak. I speak because I am free to do so.

We need real leaders to come back to the states, not fobs who have no critical thinking skills. You may be technically literate but you read the news with inattention or just to confirm your own prejudices or both.

I caught wind of it as well. Here’s the deal guys. Your anti-Obama comment was linked by “stand-to”, which is an official arm of US Army public affairs.
I’m a Paratrooper about to leave recruiting duty and go back to the 82nd Airborne (thank God!), and I fully support Barack Obama. Like you, my political opinions are my own and I respect yours.
But it IS in the very fabric of our constitution that the military stay completely out of partisan politics… and if the US Military is going to go down that road it should scare the shit out of all of us. REGARDLESS of which candidate it’s to the benefit of.

Sgt. Kerd, I think that Obama is not the real deal. I think he’s old school politics as usual and just as full of crap as the next guy. There I said it.
USArmyParaTrooper… I understand what you are saying but people are jumping the gun and assuming a lot of things. I keep getting railed for not reading things, not hearing the whole story and not having an open mind… when people are coming here and making really huge assumptions about what happened. It’s like they read the WaPo headline and that was all they needed. I hope your time in the 82nd goes well and you stay safe. I have a Cousin who was a paratrooper, but broke his ankle going into Granada a long time ago. He’s retired now, but spent the rest of his days on the ground as a medic after the break. I know it’s hard for a paratrooper to not be jumping!

Clair, I agree. People are jumping the gun.
Here’s a HUGE issue that I think should be discussed. A new GI Bill that was introduced by Senator Jim Webb that (dramatically) increases our education benefits. We’ll receive a FULL scholarship to any state college or university, plus pay for books, plus a stipend salary for cost of living.
It already has huge bi-partisan support but has been opposed by the current administration, Secretary Gates and Senator McCain because they fear it will “hurt retention.”
Now, I’m not necessarily bringing this to your attention to change your political mind. But perhaps you can open discussion about this bill on your blog. It’s certainly a very important and relevant issue.
I love the idea and would love to discuss it. I will do just that when I am able. I guess the proverbial crap is hitting the fan, and until it quits spewing on me I am going to lay low. I will definitely start a thread on it sometimes soon though.
