Name that Senator

Update & BUMP!!! – And the answer IS … oh, and I know sgt.pepper is just waiting on the edge of his seat …

Senator Benjamin H. Hill: Patriot, Constitutionalist, Southerner, and above all an American.

In the Reconstructionist era following the war between the states many Senators such as Mr. Hill protested what amounted to the plundering of the South by the North. This was not what Lincoln had in mind for the South but weaker more corrupt administrations had other plans.

Point is, the good Senator’s words could be easily updated for today’s situation. This is not the first time our great nation has faced a constitutional crisis (and that’s what this lawlessness really is) nor will it be the last. Some say that if we can survive a Grant administration (arguably the most corrupt in our entire history) then we can survive any administration. The only real difference between today and yester-year is the technology that enables the crisis to a greater degree. But technology is only a tool to be used as the wielder sees fit.

So, vote for who you want. But above all remember that you are AMERICANS. “This is our country. Let us resolve that we will never be driven from it nor be ostracized in it.” Hold your elected officials feet to the fire of the Constitution as it is read in plain language apart from distortion or interpretation.

God bless.

—————————————————-

Mr.Hooah! here folks. Trolls may start flaming now … no need to read further. For everyone else, please read the below excerpts and “name that senator”!!

This was an amazing speech. It was probably forgotten as soon as it was uttered.

It was most certainly not reported by the media. It begins thusly:

I tell you, the American people will not always be deceived. They will rise in defense of their constitution – and traitors will tremble. They who rallied three million strong to defeat when they considered an armed assault on the Constitution and Union will not sleep until a few hundred traitors from behind the masked battery of congressional oaths and deceptive pretensions of loyalty shall utterly batter down the Constitution and Union forever.

I warn you, boastful, vindictive Radicals, by the history of your own fathers, by every instinct of manhood, by every right of liberty, by every impulse of justice, that the day is coming when you will feel the power of an outraged and betrayed people. Go on confiscating! Arrest without warrant or probable cause; destroy habeas corpus, deny trial by jury; abrogate state governments; defile your own people and flippantly say the Constitution is dead! On, on, with your work of ruin, ye hell-born rioters in sacred things! But remember for all these things you will be called to judgment.

Oh my. What an opener, eh?

Ah! What an issue you have made for yourselves. Succeed and you destroy the Constitution! Fail, and you have covered the land with mourning. Succeed, and you bring ruin on yourselves and all the country! Fail, and you bring infamy upon yourselves and all your deluded followers! Succeed, and you are the perjured assassins of liberty! Fail, and you are the defeated, despised traitors forever! Ye who aspire to be Radical governors and judges, I paint before you this day your destiny. You are but cowards and knaves, and the time will come when you will call upon the rocks and mountains to fall on you and the darkness to hide you from an outraged people.

And how about this for an ending …

And now, my friends, of all races, of all colors, of all nations, of all sexes, of all ages, let us resolve to stand by our Constitution and surrender it to no enemy. This is our country. Let us resolve that we will never be driven from it nor be ostracized in it.

Bonus points if you can name the Senator’s party as well.

I’m thinking and stuff. It hurts. I have a time frame to think of — The Revolutionary War. I have an individual in mind. Is he bigger than a breadbox?

    PICK ME! PICK ME!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

(And…..in a shameless promo….lol…I have a piece up from an Army Wife, where she tells us how she REALLY feels on a certain OTHER senator….speaking only for herSELF of course….lol)

Back to the regular excellent Hooah and family postings…

Sorry Brat … sorry, Brat … (humm, all depends upon where you put the comma eh?) but: NO!

    Try again? Any more takers?

First off you mention the word “party” as a bunus. Leads me to think it not a traditional party like donkey or elephant. Am I correct on that? And, did this Senator speak in the 20th century? The language is not 20th century. Perhaps early to mid 1900′s at best. Lemmee reread before shot in dark. And no, the damn google doesn’t work. Also, could it be a state senator? It can’t be this one guy I’m thinking of. Looking for commies in th u.s. Is there a way to google this?

I have a guess here Mr. Hooah! If that is your real name. And, I want my bonus.

    Post Revolutionary War.

    JOHN QUINCY ADAMS: FEDERALIST PARTY.

  10. brat
    June 25, 2008

Wasn’t John Quincy Adams an early president? And Sgt Pepper? Maybe they SHOULD be said in the 20th century. A bit of blunt speaking might be just what America needs in the current climate. Not that I, myself, would ever speak bluntly of course..;)

But another clue struck my tired out brain. You said this was not reprted in the media….Was there even a “media” such as we know it today? Is that relevant at all to this clue? Time frame?

So, come on now, Mr. Hooah! Spill the beans.

    IfyouknowwhatImeanandIthinkyoudo when I say:
Sgt – No, no, and no. Sorry. No bonus for you buddy. :) )

Brat – Sort of, no, and no. You? Blunt? Never. :rolleyes

This seems to be google-able. My mom (mommy!) googled it and came up with the correct answer pretty quickly. It sort of ticked me off as I thought “everyone is going to get this too fast” but all is well that ends well.

I’ll post the answer at lunch in order to give anyone else time to participate. :smile

No surprise I am sure BUT I have never heard of him :(

But, having said that, he really does sounds not only like someone I could enjoy agree with?), but also most certainly someone America needs today..

Blunt talk for Blunt times..Hey, a new bumper sticker.(and of course the flame throwers will have other uses for “blunt”, lol)

Brat armed with pom poms in one hand and fire extinguisher in the other. Thanks for the info here, Mr Hooah. I am now going off to research Senator Benjamin H. Hill. The first of many new things I shall learn today.:)

You know … I may have accidentaly mislead Sgt.Pepper.

When he asked “Civil War” era I said NO but I confused the time of the speech with the time of the Senator.

Darn my cloudy head! :( (

PS: Some biographys list the senator’s party as Democrat.

    D@MNIT ALL TO H&LLLLLLLLLLLL!!!!!!

You said it wasn’t during the Civil War. I would have easily found this guy by looking at the list of Senators during the period.

And, I kinda was on the edge of my seat. I do enjoy beers. Or, comments on my dumb blog. Shhhh……I like Obama. Despite his terrorist fist jabbing. I actually think it would be cool to make McCain Secretary of Defense. Nahhhh….people don’t work together anymore. Utopia Schmutiopia.

I was thinking you had read or watched John Adams but couldn’t find this quote although I found something similar JQA and Churchill said concerning a similar subject.

My blog is in backwards Beatles Mode right now. The idea is to link every tune I can to SOMETHING.. Usually the music corresponds to something off center in my brain, so since I was thinking yesterday everything seems backwards, I found a copy of Revolution 9 (backwards). The Jukebox is on random mode.

And, I haven’t forgotten about Nowhere Man Mr. Hooah! and Claire. And y’all don’t owe me nothing. I owe you and the Armed Forces. Period.

    OUT

Tough question about an obscure Senator. WHY DID YA DO ME LIKE THAT SIR? NOT CIVIL WAR. SHEESH. :lol

  19. Sgt. PepperPolitics
    June 25, 2008

@Brat! I’ll share the beer with ya since we got lost on this adventure.

John Quincy Adams was a Senator before becoming Prez. I looked on the official Senator Web page of all its’ members throughout history. Not like I had him on the tip of my tongue.

The type of language used was the only clue to go on. That’s why I suspected initially Civil War era. Language is what it is and not necessarily what it ought to be.

    Tis the truth.

However, if the good Senator had figured out how to convey his thoughts with Carlin’s, “Seven Dirty Words,” and woven them into his speech the way Carlin did in his bit, we wouldn’t have had a hard time finding it I’d bet.

I’ve got an easy one. Where did the F-bomb come from and what was its original purpose?

  20. Sgt. PepperPolitics
    June 25, 2008

By the way Mr. Hooah!, your point on language and technology is most astute. Orwell was only 24 years off.

Thanks for allowing a rubbernecker (learning the rules of the road) to do anything I can to help out our military.

I’ve looked up some things on different proposals for “GI bills.” I’m not certain of everyone’s position quite frankly. However, it is clear to me and my friend “Gunner” education is key. It shouldn’t be a mere political football.

  21. Mr_Hooah
    June 26, 2008

Heh, three posts in a row from Sgt.Pepper. Wow. I must have gotten him “really” riled up! :B)

F-Bomb? Wasn’t that a hip hop euphamism used to avoid censureship?
Or are you talking about the Fatboy, the atomic bomb we dropped on Japan?

I guess I’m just out of it. :rolleyes

Mr. Hooah-was Sen. Adams’ speech the one he gave in 1836 concerning abolition of slavery in Washington, D.C.? I think he was a Congressman at that time for his district in Braintree, Massachussetts.
I’ve been looking up the Supreme Court’s 1841 decision for Adams’ closing statements re: the Amistad slaves, but it’s late and I’m tired. I’ll have to look it up in FindLaw tomorrow.
According to the geneaology my aunt did for entrance into the Daughters of the
American Revolution organization, I am a direct descendant of the 2 Presidents Adams, from JQA’s son Charles Francis. I resemble JQA’s daughter, Louise Catherine.

Sorry, comments for this entry are closed at this time.
