Thank you all for your service. My mentor was a Marine in Vietnam. Respect. And THANK YOU.

err, by using Comedy Central’s exposure of The U.S. Army’s endorsement of Indecision 2008, this rubbernecker is now endorsed as well I guess.

Mr. Hooah!, My fishing buddy always yells that to this day. Loved it and your article as well.

Thanks Again. And, I love reading everyone’s perspective. But for Comedy Central, I would never have found this Claire.

The internet sure is a weird world. I once had 35,000 visits in one day because HuffPo linked to me. It was freaky but fortunately I have a thick skin. It will go back to normal soon.

LONG ROUND OF REPEAT FROM COMEDY CENTRAL!

Mr. Hooah! THANKS FOR YOUR SERVICE. And Claire’s.

If I read it all correctly, you have a son or daughter serving now. Thank her/him. I thought your blog was hysterical and I’m an Obama supporter.

Wow, The Great Washington Post is, um, FUBAR. Illogical. Woodward and Bernstein’s nest with egg all over it. They tried to flame you and the Army but you guys torched the established media with the far more powerful ammo. Your right to express yourselves. The blog is mightier than the printing press.

Mr. Hooah! You remind me of my best friend and mentor, who I like to call, “Gunner.” A Marine Vet and “artie (sp?)” from Vietnam who did two tours and is a self-described “jarhead.” He just retired a few months ago from the government and was a Public Defender for decades after the war. I love listening to all of his stories and have learned a great deal from him and our “squid” judge friend. Neither of whom can fish worth a dang. Both are in their 60′s (i’m only in my mid 30′s) and can honestly say they have helped me understand more about life, duty, country, and sacrifice than anyone or anything.

Hanoi Jane is a still the butt of all of our jokes and usually the music of choice for our fishing adventures is the soundtrack from “Apocalypse Now.”

One story that always hits me is when the one where “Gunner” returned home from his tours. They stationed him in Washington, D.C., and armed him on a bus to protect the city from crazy protesters. To this day, he couldn’t believe it. He came home and was armed to potentially fight a new “enemy.” I try to imagine what it must have been like on that bus looking out of the windows with rabid protesters, being about twenty-one years of age, waiting to see your folks, and still not knowing who the enemy was/is. NOT THIS TIME. ALL WILL COME HOME WITH HONOR AND BE RECOGNIZED AND TREATED LIKEWISE. NO MATTER WHAT.

I couldn’t believe what I just read. Sickening. The one thing I know is we don’t know the answers on how to resolve Iraq. Also, to respect your elders and those who serve and protect my scrawny little ass. I can’t wait to show him your original post. He’ll love it. He suffers from a variety of disabilities now and it is really quite sad. His body and boat still work and we go out as much as we can. If not for his amazing legal skills and acumen, it saddens me to know Uncle Sam didn’t help others as much as him.

I read a post on your blog about the GI bill. If not for “Gunner’s” education, he wouldn’t have been able to teach others or have the services he is getting. I don’t buy the “retention” argument by McCain. But, honestly, even as an Obama supporter, I do not see how in the world we can pull out now or even in one year or two. Maybe four if Obama uses the best diplomacy skills. It’s not like flipping off a light switch. That’s why I loved your article when you described dumping out the ammo and understand hyperbole and satire. Yet, I don’t think McCain is the better of the two choices for a host of reasons. The GI Bill being just one, (BUT ONE I CAN PERHAPS TRUMPET LOUDLY HERE. EDUCATION HELPED MY FRIEND GUNNER BECOME THE BEST DAMN PERSON I KNOW ASIDE FROM BEING ONE OF THE BEST LAWYERS I’VE EVER SEEN).

Hope you and Claire find are having a good time of it. I feel like I’m writing “Gunner” and his wife he affectionately calls, “The Commandant.” One question, do they still call spaghetti and meatballs “mop strings and meat?”

I don’t feel entitled to even write your handle as a way to sign off. But at least ya thought of it! Thanks again.

    Hey Sgt.!
Thanks for the well wishes and I’ll pass them along to my son too. Glad you liked the article. Seems not everyone enjoys a good laugh these days. The flamers got soooo serious that I had to post a few “over the top” comments myself. I hope you’ll get a good chuckle from the “JackAss of the Day” award posted here.

You comment is long! Wheww. Where do I begin? First, I think I’ll come over to your blog … I visited yesterday and thought it was great. Very clever stuff. Think we can work the WaPo blogger in as a “real no where man”?

Second, I don’t think I’m even in the same league as to be a reminder of the great man who is your mentor. Wow. Men like that are rare. But thanks for the comparison non the less. He and your squid friend are probably living tomes of wisdom. I’m jealous. :) ) Is there anything I can do for Gunner or the commandant (love that name)? Do let me know what he thinks of all this when you get around to it.

Third (gawd I love numbered lists), my wife and I hope to have a guest blogger come on in a few days to do another piece on the recent changes in veterans scholarship benefits. Like you, I don’t buy the whole “retention” argument either. McCain gives me cause for pause on so many levels.

Geez. I could go on and on replying to your comments … maybe I’ll just leave off with this and email you later …
Nope, never heard ‘em called “mop strings ‘n meat”. The closest thing I ever saw to spaghetti and meatballs was a sort of noodle, ground meat, onion, and green pepper thing that my cadre called, “shut up and eat”. But hey, that was just Officer Candidacy School. Maybe somewhere out there they still serve mop strings ‘n meat. I’ve heard the cordon bleu at FOB Warhorse wasn’t too bad. LOL!!

ps: You’re the only one to catch the whole “dump your ammo” thing correctly. Cheers! If we ever meet I owe you a beer! :B)
