News From The ‘Stan…

There has been news from Afghanistan that is disturbing to me. It appears a US drone has dropped a few bombs into Pakistan. This just after Admiral Mullen was ‘in country’ meeting with the Pakistani’s to discuss the attacks across the border from A’stan.

But you know what? If Pakistan can’t take care of the ‘taliban’ who are coming out of their country to wage attacks against us, then by golly we should and hopefully, will! But that’s just my opinion. Click here for the AFPS News story.

Again, this is just my personal opinion here. BUT don’t you think with the taliban’s normal SOP to attack our guys from behind the skirts of the local populace, wouldn’t it be understandable that if we should strike with air power, some of those villagers would be injured and even killed?

Quite honestly, I’ve never heard or read of a ‘war’ that hasn’t had innocent civilians involved in some way. Tragic, yes. Preventable, no. Even with all those “Rules of Engagement” we have to deal with… Strangely, the taliban have no such rules. ‘Tisn’t a fair fight to be sure.

I’ve highlighted news coming from the Kapisa province before. Today there’s more news. This time it’s good to know. Ya know?

Looks like they had a humongous shura. That’s one of those big pow-wows with all the important people. Little people too. They were discussing the security of their province and all the villages in it. Of course, since we are there helping train them to take care of their own, ‘Our Guys’ were invited too.

One last item for your reading knowledge. It’s always good to be able to understand what is going on in other parts of the world. Especially if we have ‘Our Guys’ there in harms way. This is from the Deputy Commander of JFTF-101, Army Brig. Gen. James C. McConville.

“If you had asked me, ‘What do you think of Afghanistan?’ after being here almost six months, I would say I see a country with a lot of unrealized potential,” the general said.

He made that remark when giving an interview with Afghan Media and international journalists regarding the security in Regional Command East and the proposed plan for going forward in the coming months.
