Nectar of the gods
Damon is a coffee drinker,’tis true. Claire, however, is a coffee junkie. Coffee, coffee, coffee and more coffee. I am not as bad as I was when I worked in social research.
Testing how many pots of coffee it takes to get through the antwacky “Journal of Anal Retentive Social Scientists,” was what I lived for. I seriously used to drink about 2 pots of coffee a good day. On a bad day, it was 3.
I am much better now and I average 2-3 cups of the nectar of the gods. I also should mention here that I am terribly picky about my coffee. I never drink the common brands of coffee that can be found — outside of the Starshmucks House Blend. Before my surgery last year I drank the darkest Sumatra blend I could find, but for some reason I haven’t been able to handle the dark roasts since. They are too acidic for me and leave too much of a bitter taste for my less than cast iron stomach. That was until now.
Move over Starshmucks, mama has a new brew now.
A wonderful man sent Damon some nice samples of coffee. We got to try “Devil Dog Brew” and “Sniper’s Brew.” This man is obviously a coffee muse, a messenger of the coffee gods — I think he is the Arabica Hermes.
So, where can you find this awesome coffee and why should you buy, you ask? Yes, you know you were about to ask that.
The coffee I tried is the Devil Dog Brew Colombian Supremo, and Sniper’s Brew Colombian Supremo (Bold). I could smell the greatness of these brews before I even fully opened Damon’s mail yesterday. While he was in the laboratory smelling chemicals, I was home hacking into his accounts and opening his mail and drinking his coffee. Every man wants a wife with good skills (computer hacking skills, federal crime skills, coffee brewing skills….)
So, you need to know where to go to try some of this coffee, yes?
Go to Devil Dog Brew and shop away.
Here’s a small snippet from the “about” page at Devil Dog:
I’m finally home. After serving 21 years in the Marine Corps, it’s time to come back and spend those birthdays, Thanksgivings, and each and every Christmas with family and loved ones. Yes, my wife, three sons and I were stationed in practically every clime and place. My family and I were richly blessed with a great and wonderful life in the Marine Corps.
For those that don’t know, the legendary Teufel Hunden, the Devil Dog, is a feared and revered reference to the fiercest fighting force in the world – The United States Marines. My brother, some very close friends, and I created Devil Dog Brew to honor our military. We dark roast our premium gourmet coffee with the very best 100% Arabica beans. Marines don’t always have the opportunity to get the best coffee but they certainly deserve it. A portion of our proceeds from this labor of love goes to support the brave men and women who serve in the Marine Corps and to their families.
Now, how could anyone read that and not want to buy coffee? Don’t drink the stuff? Well there are a lot of men and women in uniform who do drink the stuff, and if you don’t know who you can send it to in Iraq or Afghanistan, I do and I am sure that Devil Dog Brew can give you some leads too.
Quit your droolin’ and get to sippin.

Claire,
Between Knee Deep In The Hooah and DBS I don’t think I accomplished a single thing today. And others complain about the addictive qualities of caffeine. Thanks for being you and the kind words.

p.s.
In addition to a Ranger mentor of mine and his wife Nancy introducing me to my bride of 20+ years ask Damon about my best friend and godfather of my sons, Sergeant Ives, I think you’ll get a laugh or two.
The Army holds a special place of honor in this jarhead’s heart. Keep the powder dry.

Ah, I know there is often a lot of chiding that goes on between the Marines and the Army — but in reality we all know we are family (well we’ve never told the Air Force that, but you know how they are! haha!)

PS: Hank, I thought you would like to know that this past Sunday I had some friends over … and they are coffee snobs! They thought the sniper’s brew was very smooth. It really is my favorite coffee now. I really like it’s smooth flavor, but it’s deep taste. Very nice, indeed! Sniper worthy!
