The hard part

dinomuseum005It’s amazing the people you come across in the military. I know that our health benefits are good, and that the military offers other great incentives for soldiers and their families. To be honest, none of the benefits are as life enriching as the people you meet.

I have a very good friend who I love very much. Her husband joined after Damon. As a matter of fact her husband is the one who did a write  for the local paper about Damon joining. Damon’s joining re-sparked an interest in my friend’s husband who is a former Marine. So, we became buddies through that connection. They have two beautiful little girls. Their oldest is exactly one year older, and their youngest is one year younger than Emma.

Emma was in girl-heaven when she was with K and G.

Our friend finished OCS and is a Tanker. They now live not too far away, but far enough that a quick drive to say “hi” is too far. They are getting ready to leave for Korea in the near future. Now I am regretting that I haven’t taken the time to drive and see them while they are just a state away. Maybe before they head over we can do that.

Today Emma and I put together a little care package for the “ladies” (both K and G and their mama!). Their Papa has been in the field a lot, and I remember how that feels. So, we sent a little pamper yourself box for the ladies to enjoy. We talked about all of our fond memories of the ladies while we packed the box. It blessed me. It blessed me that even though they are going far away, we will always be connected. First through our faith, then through our friendship, and then through this crazy vocation of being an Army family.

Emma wanted to know why we couldn’t drive the package right to their front door and give it to them, and then stay and play. Other than the distance we would have to drive, I had no answer. Sometimes children have better priorities than adults.
