The wrath of mom
Does the Army really give a rat’s butt about soldiers’ families? Honest question.
I am inclined to say, as an institution, no. There is no room for consideration. Individuals in the chain of command can often make a family feel like they matter by decisions they make. In general if the military does not make a deliberate effort to make family feel like they are important in the grand scheme of things, then the default is to treat them as less than non-essential equipment.
I just found out that some doors have shut on my youngest son’s scholarship. It’s not that anything changed from when he was told “Oh you are shoe in with your grades and your JROTC time!” Nope. Oh, wait I mean nothing as far as HE is concerned has changed. However we have an Administration that believes we don’t need all this money in the military/pentagon/Army/ROTC programs. No, it is much better to send tax payer’s money over seas to fund the killing of unborn children. Why would we want to waste our tax dollars educating new officers for our military, or even waste any on the military as a whole?
Silly me. What was I thinking?
Yes, I am pissed off. I will be lucky to see my oldest before he is sent back to Iraq way ahead of schedule, and after being worked like a horse (in garrison meaning at home but not at home if you know what I mean — you know you do!). My youngest may be shipping off to BCT soon. We don’t know yet, but that is seemingly like the most viable offer he has at this point. I am glad my husband is no longer in. I need someone to commiserate with me through this time.
Off to drink a bottle glass of wine…

Oh Brat and Cathy,
I would tell you what’s going on, but we are jerked around in a different direction nearly every other day. I am beyond trusting one thing that is said — unless it’s bad news. Ugh!

Update: I talked to the ROTC Maj, the USAREC Cpt, AND the USAREC Sgt today … there is good potential we can play the system for more money for our son than he would have otherwise gotten but our son has to agree to enlist in the reserves, quick ship to BCT, and then complete his training before January 2010 in time to get into college. Its just a slim chance. The door is closing fast. And teenage boys do not always make the right decision. We’ll keep you posted.

Aaarrrrggghhhh … yeah we know what happens when 18-year old boys enlist and finish BCT.

Hope this works out. So hope that by 2010 the people of the US see clearly what is going on and vote for some much needed changes in the Legislative branch of the government. At least that will slow down some of the goals this current Admin wants.
As for your oldest–I truly hope things work out for you and your family to spend some time together before his deployment.
God bless,
A
