Have you heard the news?

According to the news a miracle has happened! A perfectly healthy, sexually active, American woman has given birth to twins! The way the media is buzzing about it you know that it just has to be a first! A miracle of miracles! It’s obviously never happened before, anywhere! How in the world does a healthy, sexually active woman give birth to twins? Wow.

Now I hear that the media is bidding in the millions to have pictures of the miraculous twins! They report the mad bidding for said picture in one breath, and then in the next breath we are told that our Country is in a horrible recession! Then they report that a gazillion Americans are still obese and had to line up for hours to buy their new iPhone! Yes, it sounds like we are on the brink of disaster to me! Cognitive dissonance on display, for sure!

There’s a quick glimpse into the snark in my head lately. Sorry I am not around a whole lot lately, but summer is keeping me busy. Today we heading out to the gym and then onto a day in the sun. Our town has some wonderful summer events planned for kids, so we are going to lap in some small town Americana and live the big life in small-town USA. I am sure that ice cream will be a part of that picture.

Obama/McCain agree - strategic withdrawl from East St.Louis a must, Iraq not-so-much

Catchy headline, no?
This story ran a couple days ago in the Army Homepage:

Violence in Iraq Drops to Four-Year Low
Jun 24, 2008
BY Fred W. Baker III
WASHINGTON (AFPS, June 23, 2008) - Violence in Iraq dropped in May to its lowest level in four years, according to a Defense Department report released to Congress Monday.

The quarterly report, feared required by Congress, measured progress in the country in March through May of this year. The report highlighted that all major violent indicators dropped during the reporting period by as much as 80 percent.

My own home town news station ran this under their “Eye on Iraq” segment:

American deaths in Iraq at a high for the week!”  OMG!!! Pull Out NOW!!

Ok, I added that last part.

But I didn’t make up the weekly high part. I don’t have to. Truth is stranger than fiction. Look up the crime stats on East St.Louis and you’ll be shocked, shocked I tell you. We should immediately withdraw our brave firemen, policemen, and health care types … its just too dangerous.

OLD DRUM:OLD BEAT

Mr.Hooah!, out.

The Final Purge and a Jackass of the Day Award

So that I do not dwell on this any further, I feel the need to do a “final purge” of the happenings the past few days on this blog. Some of you know of the huge dump that the Washington Post’s blog “IntelDump” took on my blog the other day. We were an easy target for the blog author Phillip Carter, so we were thrown under the bus and he got noticed. Nice, eh? The funny thing is, Carter claimed in his article that the real issue at hand was the fact that “Stand To” linked to an article that was clearly an anti-Obama piece, but the problem is he did not really make that the focus of the entry. He quotes and talks more about our blog and what Mr. H! wrote. He even made sure to purposely inflame his readership by linking us with Limbaugh and Fox News (accusing us of only using these two as sources of information). He set it up. He forgot to reiterate to his readership that the real issue at hand was the military, not us. Convienent, no?

I got thousands of hits that day from Washington Post and several other sources that had linked to his article. I went to Washington Post and posted on the comment thread twice. I was respectful both times, but I would like my readers to read a couple of comments left on Phillip Carter’s blog for me. These were lifted verbatim, copied and pasted. I refuse to link to his blog, so if you want the source just Google his name and the name of his blog.

may be your son who is on duty in Iraq,, should come in a box,, or some of his limbs blown away,,, or come home with mental problems and are the govt is slow to give proper medical treatment,, then your eyes will be wide open,, isn’t it,,

I hope that former army officers’s son doesn’t ever come home

……………………………

Thank God that Carter reads and pays about as close attention as his readers do. My son is already home, safe and sound. The crap-weasels who wrote those comments did so believing my son is still in Iraq (because Carter stated so). Aren’t they nice. Aren’t they oh so loving and progressive?

WaPo’s commenting policy states that “… User reviews and comments that include profanity or personal attacks or other inappropriate comments or material will be removed from the site.”

If I follow Carter’s own assertion to its logical conclusion (that linking to something equates endorsement), then I am left to draw one conclusion about his leaving (or linking if you will) comments on his blog that wishes the death of a deployed soldier: The Washington Post and Phillip Carter endorse the wishing death on a deployed soldier and stating such to his parents. If they did not think it was acceptable they would have removed it. As it stands now I really could give a rat’s behind what they do — they can remove it to try and save face, but I don’t think they care. I am sure they support our troops though, right?

I have received emails telling me that I should be dead, that my family should be dead (they are clever enough to not say that they want to kill me, so charges can’t be brought … but duh, it’s obviously a death threat). I have been called a Nazi.

The Nazi comments crack me up. I have never once in my entire life ever tried to silence another American Citizen by threat or intimdation, and yet the amoral asses who write those emails have the audacity to call ME the Nazi! Is that not the most delicious irony you have ever tasted in your life? I exercise my right to free speech, I am threatened and intimidated by fellow citizens because of it, and somehow I am the Nazi? Wow. This right here shows you the mentality I have been up against for the past couple of days.

I have deleted a lot of comments left here on my blog. I immediately came to KDIH once I realized I had been linked to and was a target for flaming, and got rid of my “about the author” page and put the comments on moderation. They will have to remain on moderation for a while. I am going to register my regular readers (those who comment frequently that I know) and erase the rest of the registered readers. You will have to register to comment at will and be approved to do so. All others will go through moderation until I am ready to register them. It’s a safe guard. I do a lot of work from home, I take care of a family, and I am dealing with some very painful orthopedic problems right now — I don’t have time to babysit my blog.

This was never an issue before in the past year that I have been writing, but thanks to Carter it is now. Which leaves me no other option than to award him the Knee Deep in the Hooah!’s official, prestigious “Jackass of the Day Award.”

Mr. Carter earned this award, not for exercising his right to free speech, but because of the unwarranted, unnecessary “bitch slap” we got from him and his readers for exercising our right to free speech. He also earned it for leaving comments on his blog wishing my son death, dismemberment or mental problems, and in doing so indirectly supporting that kind of speech to military members and their families.

So, here’s to you Phillip Carter (aka Mr.Ex-MP, Mr. Ex-Civil Affairs guy, and Mr. I’m all for the Vets.) Here’s to you.

Haditha Marines Update

Since the MSM is not going to shout it out from the roof tops I think it’s important for bloggers to spread the news. Another Haditha Marine has been acquitted. Innocent until proven guilty? Not if you are a Marine in the path of the MSM and Murtha. I would love to see a formal apology, but you know it will never happen.

Why the surge worked

The article below was found on The Olympian. It caught my eye, of course, because my son is a 4/2 soldier who was involved in some of this list of what the guys in his Brigade and Division have been up to since the start of the surge nearly 15 months ago. Ready for this chit list? It made my head swim reading it. The surge has done the job, and this is why… because the men who went in made it happen!

According to brigade records, 4-2 soldiers conducted 138 battalion-level operations and 413 company-level operations. The soldiers found and secured 552 weapons caches, cleared 87,324 kilometers of routes of improvised explosive devices and other hazards to secure safe travel, and captured and destroyed more than 25,000 pounds of explosives.

Also, the brigade detained 1,700 suspects, and captured 212 high-value targets. Additionally, 718 enemy and 20 high-value targets were killed in action, and 176 enemy personnel were wounded in action.

The brigade conducted 278 air and ground raids, resulting in 324 bombs dropped, as well as 4,663 mortar rounds and more than 11,000 artillery rounds fired.

Soldiers encountered and cleared 2,216 improvised explosive devices, including 72 house-borne, 25 suicide-vest-borne and 31 vehicle-borne IEDs.

The brigade left Fort Lewis a month earlier than expected, to participate in the “surge” strategy. The brigade joined Fort Lewis’ 3rd Stryker Brigade Combat Team in Diyala province, then remained there under the command of Multi-National Division North - eventually assuming responsibility for an area of operations that had previously been covered by two brigades of its size.

Is that egg on your face, or are you just trying to deceive me?

Reuters is at it again folks. Remember this:

Barely over a year ago, in the midst of Reuters being proven to have fraudulently Photoshopped a picture of Beirut under attack, I wrote that founder Julius Reuter must be spinning in his London grave. Poor Julius has not gained any more peaceful repose a year later. This time the fraud is not even political, and the person who busted the formerly prestigious news agency turns out to be a 13 year old in Finland.

Desperate much?

Heard on the news this morning: “Baghdad has deadliest month in a half a year…”

Deadliest month in a half-a-year?? What? We have been at war for 5-years and they are now using this kind of measure? I can only assume it’s because it’s not the deadliest month against any other measure. God forbid the MSM say “Even with recent violence, the increased security in Baghdad is making a tremendous difference in fatalities.” Of course that would be, yet again, more evidence of the success of the surge and more evidence that we have an upper hand in Iraq.

Shift News to Successes in Iraq, Soldier Urges

Another wonderful article I found on the RN site.

Carlson: Shift news to successes in Iraq, soldier urges

(excerpted below)

A tired and disgusted Iowa soldier fired off an e-mail a few days ago, telling family and friends how things are going in Iraq.

A Blackhawk helicopter pilot, Chief Warrant Officer Jim Funk has flown more than 80 combat missions since he arrived there in October.

SNIP

Morale?

“We’re treading water,” the Ames man told the people closest to him. “We continue to kick butt on missions and take care of each other, even though we know the American public and government DOES NOT stand behind us.

Ohhhh, they all say they support us, but how can you support me (the soldier) if you don’t support my mission or my objectives. We watch the news over here. Every time we turn it on we see the American public and Hollywood conducting protests and rallies against our ‘illegal occupation’ of Iraq.”

SNIP

I’ll let him say it, in his own words, in the letter, which found its way to me:

“Hello media, do you know you indirectly kill American soldiers every day? You inspire and report the enemy’s objective every day. You are the enemy’s greatest weapon. The enemy cannot beat us on the battlefield so all he does is try to wreak enough havoc and have you report it every day. With you and the enemy using each other, you continually break the will of the American public and American government.

“We go out daily and bust and kill the enemy, uncover and destroy huge weapons caches and continue to establish infrastructure. So daily we put a whoopin on the enemy, but all the enemy has to do is turn on the TV and get re-inspired. He gets to see his daily roadside bomb, truck bomb, suicide bomber or mortar attack. He doesn’t see any accomplishments of the U.S. military (FOX, you’re not exempt, you suck also).

“Let’s give you an example. A couple of days ago we conducted an air assault. We lifted troops into an area for an operation. The operation went well and our ground troops killed (insurgents) and took several prisoners, freed a few hostages and uncovered a weapons cache containing munitions and chemicals that were going to be used in improvised bombs.

“The next morning I woke up and turned on AFN (Armed Forces Network) and watched the nightly news (NBC). Nothing, none of that reported. But the daily car bomb report was reported, and the file footage was not even from the event. There was a car bomb in the Sadr City area and your news report showed old car bomb footage from another part of town from some other time.

“So we really set the enemy back that night but all the enemy had to do was turn on the news and be reassured that the enemy’s agenda (objective) was still going to be fed to the American public.

“We, the soldiers, keep breaking the back of the enemy. You, the media, keep rejuvenating the enemy.

“How hard would it be to contact the PAO (public affairs officer) of the 1st CAV, 36th CAB, 25th ID or the Marines and ask what did you guys accomplish today - good and bad? How about some insurgent blooper videos? Now that would be something to show on the evening news.

“Media, we know you hate the George Bush administration, but report both sides, not just your one-sided agenda. You have got to realize how you are continually motivating every extremist, jihadist and terrorist to continue their resolve to kill American soldiers.”

SNIP

Why did he write it?

“I am just tired of busting my butt over here and coming home every night and turning on the TV (Armed Forces Network) and hearing how we are failing miserably,” he told me in an e-mail.
