Grab a cup of joe…

It’s my morning at vajoe.com/blog. Grab a cup of joe and come and chat with me. Brat, don’t forget the donuts today. ;)

Grab a cup of joe and…

… meet me at VAJoe.com this morning! I have been asked to blog on the VAjoe team, and Monday’s will be my time. So, grab a nice, hot, awesome cup of coffee and come and chat with us. My blog entries are under my chosen blog name there “Push to test; Release to detonate.” There are many good bloggers there, including none other than Gazing at the Flag! I look forward to seeing you there — and don’t forget to bring some donuts, please!

Psst, I have a little secret to let you in on…

Don’t tell Brat that I am announcing this, but did you all know that she is blogging for News Blaze now, and she has her own blog too? Yep. You will never hear me repeating gossip like this, so you better be sure and listen close the first time!

Take Note!

Are you needing a little motivation, but you’re just having a hard time finding it? Well, I have some faux stimulus for you! Toy Soldier is back in the US and is now blogging from his own domain. Visit him at False Motivation and say hello! He has a wonderful and touching tribute up to the fallen heroes of Bayonet Company.

Drumroll Please…

In my copious amounts of spare time I have a hobby with which I use to kill my time. Nah, not really. Mr. Hooah! needed some serious help with his online gallery. He did a fantastic job getting his site up and running quickly, but it needed a little “sprucing” up, so to speak.

I added some bells, whistles, and little flashy doo-hickeys to make it pretty. Please stop by the wonderful online Gallery and it’s grand premiere. OK, it’s not very glorious, but I think I did a pretty darned good job for an amateur!

Delta Bravo Sierra

I have finally completed enough work on our new cartoon blog to at least introduce it to our readers. There are a few cartoons in the archives, and many more to come. We plan on offering a different method of syndication for those who are interested in displaying the daily cartoon on their blog. If you have a website or a blog and would like to display the cartoons there are two ways to do that. The first way is old fashioned and takes up a lot of your time over the course of time. The first method is to simply save the cartoon and upload into your files and display in a post or somewhere else on your blog. We only ask that you link back to the cartoon blog itself.

The second way is much better. If you visit Delta Bravo Sierra you will see a tab at the top that says “Embed Codes for Your Site.” There are two embed codes. One code is full size display, and is most appropriate the for a header or footer of a blog, and the second code is a sidebar code like the one you see on my blog today to the right. It embeds the cartoon and gives it a scroll bar for viewers to use. The great thing about the embed code is that every day when Mr. Hooah! uploads a new cartoon, the display on your blog will change too! A new, free and fun cartoon (a lot of them are of a military nature) every weekday with out doing anything for it. You have total control as to where the code is put and how long you have it.

I am also willing to help out anyone who is having a problem embedding the frame into their blog. Just send me an email and I will see what I can do to help you figure out any glitches you may have.

So, with no further ado, please let me introduce to you all, Delta Bravo Sierra.

Where in the world is Piper?

Our friend Piper, from “what in the world…?” is on a road trip this week. Stop by and view the pictures she is sharing from this fun, fast and furious trip. Where is she? Where is she going? When will she get there? You will find out what she’s up to by stopping in and saying “hi!”

The last look

Several months back a regular reader sent me a link to this blog (thank you again KYWoman!). I had not been to the blog for a little while, and when I stopped by there tonight I read this soldier’s entry about his final ride out of Afghanistan. It is very poignant, educational, articulate and to be honest, quite poetic. Here’s a small excerpt of what you will read if you stop by and Bill and Bob’s Excellent Afghan Adventure. Oh, and welcome home Bob (I hope that is correct.) Thank you for your service, and we are waiting to hear of your safe arrival back on American soil!

Excerpt:

There were a lot of other sights that I said goodbye to easily; the mud brick Afghan construction, burqa-clad women moving like blue trick-or-treaters down the side of the street, haphazard electrical wires strung on flimsy poles running between houses like a drunken spider web. I won’t miss the general shabbiness, the vague feeling of quiet desperation, the feeling overwhelmed by the enormity of the problems; the destruction.

I am glad to be an American. We don’t know what we’ve really got; we take it for granted. Overseas, our flag is a symbol of so much. It stands for things that citizens of other countries resent us for in a lot of ways, but they envy us, too.

Sometimes we are proud of the wrong things; we don’t even know the preciousness of what we have. We are so lost in ourselves that we misidentify our real strengths; but they are there.

One thing that we take for granted is the intactness of our seemingly fractal society. Our infrastructure, which we sometimes become exasperated with, is so intact. Infrastructure; roads, bridges, electricity, water, sewage, garbage collection… it’s so fragile. It’s the stuff that takes years to build and lots of time to maintain, and it’s the first thing to get blown to pieces when significant groups of people fight with each other over control of a society.
